The FGF: Alexandria training units graduation ceremony

Alexandria 11 December 2005 —The FGF (Future Generation Foundation) today, celebrated the graduation of 900 trainees of its BBSA program. The BBSA Program, which is subsidized by the FGF, provides training in English language, computer skills and basic business performance skills, all taught in groups. Training is arranged and provided in partnership with the reputable training centers of Amideast and Berlitz. The program is followed by organized employment fairs where participants can immediately put their new knowledge to use.
The BBSA Program aims to prepare recent Egyptian graduates who were not adequately advised in their formal education – and therefore lack competitiveness in the job market – to enter the workforce and compete for positions that require internationally recognized levels of proficiency. Participants are enabled to express themselves with confidence, to give professional presentations, to work in teams and to function under pressure.
The 14-week program, with 6-8 contact training hours per day, is comprised of the following components: English Language, Computer Applications (ICDL equivalent), Employment Qualifier Program, Character development, Extra Sessions, the preparation and implementation of a business project; a prerequisite for graduation.
Lately and particularly in Alexandria the FGF has been interested in the issue of educational reform and the development of teacher skills in Egypt, as a result 300 of the graduated trainees were active employees of the Ministry of Education.
The celebrations of today included 2 presentations, each under the supervision of 1 of the different providers, followed by a description of the BBSA by the Deputy Chairman of the FGF,
Mr. Moataz El Alfy.
Amongst the speakers of the event were, Mr. Gamal Mubarak, (Chairman of the FGF),
Mr. Rachid Mohamed Rachid Minister of Foreign Trade and Industry, Minister of Communications, Dr Tarek Kamel and Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Librarian of Alexandria and the Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
All speakers stressed the importance of opening to the outside world (culturally, technologically, and generally the openness to all factors which will inevitably be felt within this era of globalization) for a brighter future and how it would create new job opportunities as well as the governments efforts to raise the standard of education and living within the country.
