Alexandria, 28 July 2005—The Planetarium Science Center (PSC) at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina has begun the screening of one of the latest scientific movies entitled “Ring of Fire” using IMAX® technology. The movie demonstrates the immense natural force of the great circle of volcanoes and seismic activity that rings the Pacific Ocean, and throws light on the varied cultures and people that coexist with them. Spectacular volcanic eruptions are featured, including Mount St. Helens, Navidad in Chile, Sakurajima in Japan, and Mount Merapi in Indonesia. Extensive aerial photography and computer animation help tell the story of the geologic forces that impact the ring.

Volcanoes date back to about million years and are recognized as one of the main natural catastrophes for human race. The aim of this movie is to educate the viewers about volcanoes and illustrate their importance in geological studies.
