Lecture on Islam and challenges of the era at the BA

Alexandria, 25 July 2005—Saturday, 23 July, witnessed a lecture on Islam and the challenges of the era, featuring Professor Mahmoud Hamdy Zakzouk, Minister of Al Awqaf and Chairman of The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs. Professor Zakzouk resolved to commence his lecture with a minute of silence for the tragic events that occurred at Sharm El Sheikh earlier in the day.
Professor Zakzouk divided the challenges affecting the Islamic world into 2 mains parts; inner challenges and outer challenges. Within the inner challenges, several points were stressed on including backwardness, terrorism, and the misunderstanding of Islam; stating that backwardness does not mean lack of money, but rather the backwardness of scientific, intellectual, economical, social, political and ethical beliefs. Professor Zakzouk continued his discussion of inner challenges, stressing on terrorism and the misunderstanding of Islam.
Outer challenges, he stressed, was straining on the fear the "West" have of Islam due to the violence of some Islamic countries. Other topics lying under the outer challenges included the conflict of civilizations, globalization and modern scientific developments.
In conclusion, Professor Zakzouk assured that all Muslims aiming for a promising life, would achieve this through science, development and civilization and the hope that is still there for them to regain their glory.
