“Light and Shadow” International Summer Arts Festival

Alexandria, 30 June 2005—The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) will witness the inauguration of the Fourth International Summer Arts Festival titled “Light and Shadow”, taking place in the BA Plaza, 1 July - 5 August 2005.

This year’s program includes a diverse selection of events and spectacular shows with participants from around the world, including Algeria, Austria, Egypt, Greece, Iraq, Sweden and Sudan, and concerts, cinematic, and theater performances.

Commencing the Festival, the band, WAMA, will perform on Friday, 1 July followed by Al-Mousseleya Band performing its distinctive music style on Saturday, 2 July. Wust El-Balad, Mawaweel, Bikya Electronic Rock and Aragid groups perform consecutively starting 3 July.

The events continue with Nesma Abdel Aziz, the popular percussion star, Nassir Shamma on the oud; Pyramids Group, El Tanboura for Folkloric Heritage; Neveen Allouba and her musical group; Manal Mohie El Din on the harp and many more.

Dance troupes from Greece—The Rentis Municipal Company for Athletics and Culture, 14 July; and Austria— “Dans Kias” and “Tanz Hotel”, 9 July and 11 July, promise further cultural flavor.

As for the Cinema program, a collection of Charlie Chaplin’s Masterpieces will be screened, 23-27 July. The final performance on 5 August is a surprise.
