Alexandria, 17 May 2005— The Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT), affiliate of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in collaboration with the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED), organized a seminar entitled The Euro-Mediterranean Cultural Heritage towards a New Perspective, that was held in the Smart Village, 16 May 2005.

During the seminar, the results achieved to date by the UNIMED Cultural Heritage II (UCH II) were discussed and examined. UCH II is a project funded by the European Commission under the Euromed Heritage II Programme, where 22 institutions, in 11 different Mediterranean countries, are working together to improve cooperation in the field of cultural heritage preservation, restoration and management, so as to create a community in which know-how and experiences developed by some Mediterranean countries can be shared with all other partners.

CULTNAT collaborates with various international organizations as well as the European Union in many projects concerned with cultural heritage. Most of these projects focus on Egypt, and include: Architectural Heritage of Cairo; Arabic Music Heritage; Folkloric Heritage; Natural Heritage; Photographic Heritage; Manuscripts Documentation; International Joint Projects; and Eternal Egypt.
