Second workshop for the National Atlas of Egypt Project

Alexandria, 12 May 2005—The Advisory Committee of Geography, History and Archaeology at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing the second workshop of the National Atlas of Egypt Project at the BA, 14-15 May 2005, to discuss its development and steps implemented. The project, undertaken in cooperation with L’Institut d’Egypte, aims to document Egypt from the geographical, geological and climatic perspectives, as well as its natural resources.

Speakers in the workshop include Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina; Dr. Mohamed Abdel Rahman El Sharnouby, representing the Egyptian Scientific Academy; Dr. Fathy Abu Eyana, Professor of Geography, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University; and Dr, Sohair Wastawy, Head of Libraries Sector at the BA.

The workshop focuses on several topics, including geographical maps, presented by Sohair Hassan, and geological maps, presented by Dr. Zenhom El-Alfy, both from the Egyptian National Survey Authority. Discussions will also revolve around soil, morphological and weather maps, in addition to natural protectorates. Participants include professors from the Faculties of Arts in Alexandria, Cairo, and Ain Shams Universities, experts, scientists, as well as technicians and cartographers.
