The BA Discusses the Challenges of Information Circulation in the Digital Age

The BA Center for Strategic Studies organized today a panel discussion entitled "The Challenges of Information Circulation in the Digital Age: Between Credibility and Rumor" as part of the "Alexandria Dialogues" series, in the presence of a group of experts, specialists, academics and intellectuals.
The discussion was moderated by Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA, and conducted by Dr. Abdulaziz Sager, Chairman of the Gulf Research Center in Saudi Arabia; Prof. Maged Osman, President of the Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research (Baseera) and former Minister of Communications and Information Technology; Major General Dr. Ezzedine Abdel Rahman Auf, Advisor to Nasser Military Academy for Postgraduate Studies; and Dr. Yasser Abdelaziz, media expert and former BBC consultant.
Dr. Abdulaziz Sager highlighted the strength of Egyptian-Saudi ties, stressing that the relationship between the two countries has been well established since ancient times. He also expressed his delight at signing a memorandum of cooperation today between the BA and the Gulf Research Center in Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Maged Osman discussed the importance of differentiating between false and misleading information, as false information may occur unintentionally, while misleading information has an agenda, which may be political or for profit.
In his speech, Major General Dr. Ezzedine Abdel Rahman Auf stressed that knowledge is the right of every human being on earth, and that technology has become an essential tool in the lives of new generations, but it has affected family bonding, and its influence has become more powerful than that of the family.
For his part, Dr. Yasser Abdulaziz said that progress in the fields of communications and information is ground-breaking, but is offset by a significant information decline. He added that the state of global information is increasingly manipulated and has never been more fragile.
