Workshop: Challenges and Problems of Publishing

Alexandria— The BA will organize during the period from 11 to 12 April 2007, a workshop entitled "Crossing Boundaries: Expanding Your Publishing Opportunities", attended by international publishers and representatives of publishing houses from all over the world.

Participants will discuss publishing in the Arab World, presenting facts and data about book publishing, book trade, licensing, literacy and reading habits in the Arab countries compared to other parts of the world.

The workshop will include a demonstration of the “Espresso Book Machine” in the Library, the BA's latest digital experience, the second experience of its kind worldwide following that of the USA, and first in the Middle East and the Arab world.

The workshop will tackle the future of publishing, since the last 5-10 years in publishing have been marked by rapid and significant change, as electronic publishing, online publishing, digital production, which changed consumer expectation and drove new products and services.

Fundamentals of marketing and other basic concepts will be introduced during the workshop. The workshop will discuss key principles of marketing and explore ways of applying essential strategies, and will explain how marketing and sales are actually two very different functions.
