The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized a seminar titled "Contributions and Achievements in Green Technology," on the sidelines of the first edition of its International Award," held under the patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The session was moderated by Dr. Yehia El-Shazly, with the participation of Dr. Ahmed El-Sherbiny, member of the Award's judging committee, in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

The seminar explored the scientific visions of the award winners, where Professor Hassan Shafik Abdullah (a British national of Egyptian origin), the award recipient for his contributions to the circular economy, presented a series of technical projects aimed at resource sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.

Dr. Shafik focused in his lecture on revolutionary applications, including the use of "graphene" in the aviation industry to reduce aircraft weight and fuel consumption, the "digital twin" technology to monitor energy consumption in smart cities, as well as the importance of transitioning to "green data centers" and digital health technologies.

For his part, Mr. Glenn Banaguas (Philippines), the award winner for developing sustainable aviation fuel, discussed his experience in the "Climate-Smart Philippines" program, explaining how to harness science to serve the most affected groups by climate change, such as farmers and fishermen.

He emphasized the importance of "scientific diplomacy" in simplifying technical concepts for decision-makers and local communities, pointing out the necessity of considering psychological and spiritual aspects to enhance communities' resilience against natural disasters.

In his speech, Dr. Ahmed Zayed said that the Library is about to launch this year the first quantum computer in Egypt, in collaboration with Norway, to be a qualitative addition to the technological infrastructure of the Library.

He also stated that the Library is about to establish the BA House of Knowledge and Innovation to serve as a center for hosting distinguished scientists and researchers to exchange expertise and educate new generations.

It is worth mentioning that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Award was launched to assert the Library's enlightening mission and directly contribute to supporting creativity and innovation, especially in topics that achieve well-being and happiness for humanity. It is held under the gracious patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
