Plenary Sessions during the International Planetarium Society Conference (IPS 2010)

As part of the 20th International Planetarium Society Conference (IPS 2010): “Back to Alexandria, the Cradle of Astronomy”, held for the first time in Africa and the Middle East, from 26 to 30 June 2010, 3 plenary sessions are held featuring eminent lecturers in the field.


Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, gives a lecture entitled “Alexandria and the History of Astronomy” on Sunday, 27 June 2010 at 11:30 am.


On Monday, 28 June 2010, Dr. Farouk El-Baz, Director of the Center for Remote Sensing, Boston University, gives a lecture entitled “The Role of Planetaria in Science Education” at 9:30 am.
 

Dr. Goerge Saliba, Professor of Arabic and Islamic Science in Columbia University, gives a lecture on Tuesday, 29 June 2010, at 9:30 am, entitled “Arabic and Islamic Astronomy in an Intercultural and European Context”.
 

All three lectures are open to public for free at the BACC Great Hall. They are also available via the BA Webcast Service.
