Celebrating the fifteenth anniversary of the Reading for All campaign at the BA

Alexandria, 17 July 2005—H.E. Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, Chair of the Higher Committee of the Reading for All campaign and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Library of Alexandria, witnesses a festival celebrating the 15th anniversary of the campaign’s launch at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, 17 July 2005.

The festival, “From the Arab El-Mohamadi Library to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina: 15 years of enlightenment”, brings to a close a marathon of torch relay across Egypt’s governorates by Egyptian youth from the Arab El-Mohamadi district, where the annual Reading for All project was launched in 1990, to the Library of Alexandria.

Mrs. Mubarak will deliver a speech during the celebration, preceded by an introductory note by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. A cultural entertainment program will be performed by the adult choir, children’s choir and musical groups of the Culture Palaces Authority.

Accompanying Mrs. Mubarak are a number of Egyptian political dignitaries and Higher Committee members of the campaign, including Mr. Muhammad Safwat El Sherif, Speaker of the Shura Council; Mr. Farouk Hosni, Minister of Culture; Mr. Anas Al Faki, Minister of Information; Dr. Muhammed Al Beltagi, Minister of Youth; Dr. Abdel Rehim Shehata, Minister of State for Local Development; Mr. Abdel Azim Wazir, Governor of Cairo; Mr. Abdel Salam El-Mahgoub, Governor of Alexandria; Mrs. Fayza Abul Naga, Minister of International Cooperation; and Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of Telecommunication and Information.
