Farouk Khorshid’s personal library at the BA

Alexandria, 4 July 2005—The Bibliotheca Alexandrina has recently acquired an exclusive donation from the great collection of Farouk Khorshid’s personal library that includes approximately 2000 books on different subjects. Khorshid, the novelist and media figure, passed away last January at the age of 77, bequeathing his book collection to the BA.

The set of books includes Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves, The Thousand and One Nights, In the Step of the Master and Muslim Educational Institutions.

Khorshid chaired the Egyptian Writers Union for nine years, and was Director of the Middle East radio station. He was also the rapporteur of the Popular Arts Committee at the Supreme Council of Culture. In addition to teaching popular literature, he wrote nearly 50 literary works. Khorshid received the State Medal for Novels and Short Stories in 1964 and the State Merit Award in Literature in 1989.
