Alexandria, 22 June 2005—The Arts Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is currently preparing for its fourth International Summer Arts Festival, 1 July - 5 August.

The Festival’s wide variety of events includes concerts, cinematic, and theater performances. Modern, classical and folklore music will be performed by the bands WAMA, Mawaweel, Aragid, Tanboura and Niveen Allouba’s band. Highlights also include performances by Omar Khairat, Nesma Abdel Aziz, Nassir Shamma on the oud and Manal Mohie El Din on the harp. The cinema program will consist of a variety of Charlie Chaplin’s masterpieces, as well as workshops and theater performances, held within the context of the Austrian-Swedish-Egyptian Theater Festival, featuring the “Dans Kias” and “Tanz Hotel” troupes from Austria; and Mohamed Shafiq Troupe from Egypt.

Paying homage to the Ancient Library of Alexandria, a metal sculpture exhibition will take place in the BA Plaza, displaying the workshop works of a group of artists that involves the sculpting of characters associated with the history of the Ancient Library, such as Cleopatra, Marc Anthony, Ptolemy I and Demetrius of Phaleron.
