The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized yesterday the closing ceremony of the reading marathon (3rd edition), which was held in Alexandria, and at King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in Saudi Arabia and the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco. The event witnessed a huge turnout of children, young people, general users, people with special needs, and students of the Adult Education program.

With this turnout, the objectives of the marathon were achieved, which focused on nurturing intellectual, cognitive, and cultural awareness by encouraging and motivating reading without specifying the content or the amount of the reading material. The event also raised environmental awareness, as participants planted a tree for every 100 pages read. The number of pages read reached 250326 across Alexandria, Dhahran, and Rabat, matching the planting of 2,504 trees.
