The Bibliotheca Alexandria hosts the events of the first week of the program “Promoting Citizenship Values, Community Engagement, and Fighting Illegal Immigration”, organized by the Arab Organization for Human Rights, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity and the National Institute for Family and Community Development.

The events of the first week are held in partnership with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, as part of “Decent Life” initiative adopted by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to develop rural areas in Egypt.

The program aims at reinforcing the values of citizenship and encouraging community participation, as part of the efforts of engaging civil society in the promotion of the cultural component of the presidential initiative “Decent Life”, in accordance with Egypt’s vision 2030, the National Strategy for Human Rights 2026, and the National strategy for Fighting Illegal Immigration 2026.

The 20-week program covers the Delta Region (eight governorates) until spring 2024, and targets male and female young people and students. It raises awareness about fighting hate speech and extremism, promoting civic culture and democracy, renouncing violence and animosity, and strengthening the concepts of equality and empowerment. It also raises awareness about the dangers of illegal immigration and the various alternatives offered by the Egyptian state to secure livelihoods and guarantee the right for a decent life.

The first week of activities taking place in Alexandria, which includes a series of lectures and workshops, will be launched by Dr. Sameh Fawzy, Senior Researcher at the BA; Mr. Alaa Shalaby, Head of the Arab Organization for Human Rights; MP Tarek Radwan, Chairman of the Egyptian Parliament’s Human Rights Committee; Dr. Ayman Abdel Mawgoud, Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity for Civil Society Organizations; Ms. Nesrine El-Baghdady, Member of the National Council for Women; and Dr. Amina Tarraf, Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity for Social Policies.

The cooperation between the BA and the Arab Organization for Human Rights coincides with the President’s call for a national dialogue to address the challenges and develop national efforts for a sustainable development of a crosscutting nature.
