The Artistic Department at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina held an artistic program entitled “The Art Market”. The program was on 17 January 2003, under the supervision of Maestro/Sherif Mohie El Din, Head of the Department. The program included various artistic shows with music, poetry, cinema, plastic arts, theater shows, stories and a Puppet Theater. This is the first time the Bibliotheca Alexandrina organizes such an event for the Alexandrian public. These performances were a one-day event that took place at the Plaza of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, enabling the audience to shift from one show to the other. The show included a number of readings from stories narrated by Mr. Maher Sherif, and a dialogue on the landmarks of Ancient Alexandria presented by Mr. Alaa Khaled. Ms. Hadil Nazmy, the plastic artist, demonstrated an artistic piece of work to the public where she displayed different drawing techniques. The Art Market also included two films, theater shows, and folklore music (Hassaballah). Several poets, Abd El Rahim Youssef, Hamdy Zeidan and Mostafa El Garhy, recited a number of poems. Finally, a musical quartette and a puppet show were presented to the children.
