Bibliotheca Alexandrina to host an exhibition of Rare Catalonian Manuscripts

On 6th February 2002, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina will host an exhibition for the rare books and manuscripts that are currently kept at the state of Catalonia in Spain. This exhibition is scheduled to remain open for two months
Dr. Ismail Serageldin; Director of the Library announced that H.E. Mr. Jordi Pujol; Governor of Catalonia, accompanied by a group of distinguished Catalonian politicians and scientists will inaugurate the exhibition. The inauguration ceremony will take place at the main building of the Library where it is arranged that the Catalonian delegates will donate a collection of digital copies of books and manuscripts to the Library.
Dr. Yousif Zeidan; Head of Manuscripts and Acquisition Departments at the Library, added that the Arabic heritage in Catalonia is rare and varies between scientific as well as literary manuscripts which were in Arabic and Latin.
The exhibition will include a collection of different copies of the Holy Book (Quran), old maps, astrological tools, a collection of rare manuscripts as well as the original peace treaty that was signed in the year 716 H. between Zakaria El-Hafsy, Governor of Tunisia at that time and James the Second, King of Catalonia then.
It is planned that a special area of the Library Manuscripts Exhibition will be dedicated for exhibiting these rare collections during the period of the Catalonian exhibition.
