The BA Opens the Forum “Ethics of Science and Culture in a Changing World”

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina has opened this morning a forum entitled the “Ethics of Science and Culture in a Changing World”, organized in collaboration with the Councils for Ethics in Scientific Research, the Councils for Social and Human Sciences, Population, and Communications, Information Technology Research Councils, and the Culture and Knowledge Research Council at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Scientific Research Ethics Council.
The forum was inaugurated by Prof. Ahmed Abdullah Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Rapporteur of the Social Sciences Council at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology; Prof. Ahmed Gabr, Supervisor of the Quality Councils Sector at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology; Prof. Magdy Shehata, Rapporteur of the Scientific Research Ethics Council at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology; Prof. Ahmed El-Sherbiny, Professor of Communication Systems and Networks at Cairo University and Rapporteur of the Communications Research Council at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology; and Prof. Shaaban Al-Amir, Professor at the Faculty of Archaeology, Fayoum University, Dean of the Higher Technological Institute for Tourism and Hotels in Minya, and Rapporteur of the Culture and Knowledge Research Council at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.
In his opening speech, Prof. Ahmed Zayed highlighted the fact that the question of ethics is one of the most important topics for discussion and research, and that discussions surrounding it have increased over time. He also stated that the concept of ethics has been overshadowed by consumerism, political interests, and the unfair distribution of opportunities.
It is worth noting that the forum includes a number of sessions on the ethics of scientific research.
