Since the beginning of 2004, the BA has been offering annual research grants for young Egyptian postdoctoral researchers, below the age of 35, who have completed their PhD within the past 5 years, or are expecting to complete it within the year of submitting their application. The BA research grants offer Egyptian scientists the opportunity to advance their career in their own institution by providing them with financial support as well as allowing them to participate in workshops and lectures covering an array of career development skills, with special focus on scientific research and development. The grants are designed to cover research in Natural sciences, Mathematics and Information Technology. A new field has been added recently; Pre-University Education. Moreover, the BA envisions supporting more research areas of which mainly are Social Sciences and Humanities. The applicant must be working at a public/private academic or research institution in Egypt and currently engaged or can arrange to work on a joint research project with foreign counterpart(s) at a university or a research center abroad. The maximum duration of the project is limited to 2 years and the maximum amount provided is EGP 75,000. The whole application procedure for the Research Grants takes place online. A blind review process follows to evaluate each proposal. The reviewing Committee currently comprises 90 international reviewers, representing all areas of research fields.
Science festivals offer people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to ask questions, discuss, and explore. In the process, visitors experience the pleasure of lifelong learning, whether with family, friends, or on their own. One of the steps taken by the PSC has been the initiation of a local science festival, the Annual Science Festivity organized every April since 2007. It is the target of the PSC to transform the Science Festivity into a National Festival within the coming years. The Annual Science Festivity targets the public, in general, and children in particular, and is open to the public for free. The hub of the Science Festivity is the “Science Village”, which hosts a large diversity of hands-on exhibits and the Super Science Show, in addition to parallel lectures and presentations.
BioVisionAlexandria (BVA) is an international event organized by the BA in partnership with the World Life Sciences Forum, BioVision. It is a continuation of the tradition that started in BioVision 1999 in Lyon, France in which BioVisionAlexandria Conference was held every even year, alternating with the World Life Sciences Forum held in Lyon every odd year since 2004. BioVisionAlexandria is an important gathering that brings together distinguished speakers and Nobel Laureates from the four corners of the globe through rich discussions that commemorate science and the finest achievements of the human intellect. It includes representatives of the greatest minds in the realms of industry, science, policy-making, media and civil society. The ultimate goal is to provide a platform for exchange of information and dialogue so as to explore the different ways in which life sciences can help meet the challenges facing us in the 21st century; a vital step for global economic development to improve the quality of life for all. BioVisionAlexandria aims to increase the participation of developing countries in this important global dialogue. As the BA is a key player in building bridges and fostering dialogue, BioVisionAlexandria presents a unique opportunity for North-South collaborations by bringing in new scientific knowledge to the South.
