  • The BA Planetarium Science Center (PSC) organized the 20th International Planetarium Society Conference (IPS2010): “Back to Alexandria, the Cradle of Astronomy”, held for the first time in Africa and the Middle East. The Conference took place at the BA, Alexandria, Egypt, from 26 to 30 June 2010, and was attended by Eminent Egyptian and international speakers who also gave keynote addresses at the Conference. Under the theme “The history of Astronomy”, the IPS 2010 conference showcased the latest advances in astronomy, planetarium theatre management and technology. More

  • Initiatives in Education, Science and Culture Towards Enhanced US- Muslim Countries Collaborations (from 16 to 18 June 2010)

  • The BA organized an international conference titled: "Initiatives in Education, Science and Culture Towards Enhanced US- Muslim Countries Collaborations" during the period from 16 to 18 June 2010. It brought together a diverse group of scholars, clergymen, community leaders, political figures, education experts, university students, faculty members, technology consultants, and library professionals from the US, Egypt and many other countries around the world. The conference was structured around three main themes: Education, Culture, and Science & Technology, exploring each of them in conjunction with four cross-cutting tracks, namely, Youth, IT, Media, and Women. The uniqueness of the conference lied in that it came up with a number of specific follow up projects and activities focusing on building a digital social networking to connect people together, particularly youth.   • Heritage Continuity: Origins and Preliminaries of Arabic/Islamic Heritage

  • In the frame of the MANUMED project, the BA Manuscript center organized its Seventh International Conference this year under the title "Heritage Continuity: Origins and Preliminaries of Arabic/Islamic Heritage" during the period from 25 to 27 May 2010. It addressed these earlier origins as well as the antecedent preliminaries which have paved the way to Arabic/Islamic Civilization in the different fields of science, culture, literature and art, in order to explore the nature of such "heritage continuity". The Conference tackled several themes, namely: Philosophy and Natural Sciences; General Knowledge and History; Language and Religious Perceptions; and Arts and Literature.

  • The Fifth International Biennial Conference, BioVision Alexandria 2010, was held as a continuation of the tradition that started in BioVision 1999 in Lyon, France. The BA holds the BioVision Alexandria every even year, alternating with the World Life Science Forum held in Lyon every other odd year. The theme of BioVision Alexandria 2010 was “New Life Sciences: Future Prospects”. It aimed to identify the new frontiers in life sciences that will vastly serve humanity. The Conference focused on three major themes: Health, Food and Agriculture, and Environment. Each of these themes was addressed by representatives of the greatest minds in industry, science, policy-makers and civil society fields.

  • Darwin’s Living Legacy

  • The BA Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), in cooperation with the British Council, organized an international conference entitled: “Darwin's Living Legacy: An International Conference on Evolution and Society” from 14 to 16 November 2009, marking the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth, and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his book On the Origin of the Species. The Conference hosted world renowned academic speakers from over 30 countries, who explored the role of the evolutionary science in a range of areas. It also had a special program strand dedicated to young researchers, in addition to an exhibition of the life and works of Charles Darwin.
